Most of us played some type of sport in our childhood. During those times we learned about wins and losses, and hopefully we learned how to win and lose gracefully.
Life is full of Wins and Losses. Some are big, like beating cancer or regaining your health. Some are small like keeping your bed made every day. The point is this: life is full of wins and losses. This is not the only way to measure or categorize things in life but it is useful.
God gives us each day as a gift. Think “This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it,” Psalm 118:24. For some each day is a huge victory. Getting out of bed, greeting the day again, going to work or school or fulfilling your purpose in life. No matter how we measure, these are victories. The size of the victory is determined by our perspective.
I have big goals and small goals in life. Some of my big goals are financial independence, raising our children successfully, running a whole 10k. More recently I worked on a lot of small goals, like making it to work one more day, or walking to the mailbox. God has restored my health in the last year in so many ways and I give Him all the glory for this. I now have much more appreciation for the Wins and Losses in life. I see each and every day as a gift. Each hug and tear and smile is a victory. God still gives me a vision for big goals and big Wins. But He has taught me also to be grateful for the small Wins every day.
I have not said much about losses, but that is only because my perspective on losses has changed a lot. As I greet each new day and choose to walk with God for that day, and let Him guide my steps, I know that my Creator is with me all the time, through everything, whether it be a Win or a Loss. Ultimately He “works all things together for the good of those that love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” Romans 8:28. I know I still have losses and things that bring sadness but I believe God walks through these with me and that I will ultimately see these from His perspective and know them for the victories that they are.
