I bought a basketball goal in November of 2015. It was a nice one with the adjustable board height from about 7 feet up to 10. It’s made of heavy tube steel that’s powder coated to keep the rust at bay. The board is 48 or maybe 54 inches wide. It’s a nice pole and backboard setup to replace one that rusted out after about 5 years and failed. The old one actually began to bend at a week spot and was leaning over the driveway so we had to take it down.
My sons and I were able to set the pole in a good concrete footer base in 2017 early in the summer.
Yesterday my sons and I put up the brackets and the board, rim, and net and they began shooting around and being typical boys, full of energy, loving to play.
The notable thing here is this: that goal sat in the box on the garage floor for over a year before I could muster the strength to set the pole. My sons actually dug the hole and we mixed up the concrete together and placed the footer and the pole . The backboard, hardware, brackets, and rim sat on the garage floor another 2 years. Until yesterday. Yesterday, we finished putting up the backboard and rim. It’s done, already played on for hours at this point. It took a long time because I was pretty sick that whole time. Yesterday was a victory, one of many to come. These are small things and not-so-small things that we planned but illness interfered with. These are dreams that come true. These are prayers that have been or will be answered. I am thankful to God for improving health, for answered prayers, even for dreams come true. Most of all I am thankful to know God.
