I like to find those things everyday that encourage me. I start out most days in a funk because circumstances don’t look quite the way I want them to. Perhaps I ate somethings strange the night before. Perhaps I have an unpaid bill that needs attention. Perhaps I am just tired. But most days don’t start out with sunshine and birdsong, if you know what I mean.
One of the every day actions I take to combat this funk is to open my Bible and renew my mind. I have to give God the credit for this, since I didn’t write the book. It comes to us across the ages, thousands of years. It is the best researched, most printed, most popular, most historically documented ancient writing in existence, so I reach for it. I open it to find the words I need and the guidance I seek to renew my mind and to shake off the ramblings of my un-controlled mind.
Every day in which I do this is a day I grow closer to the Almighty and eternal God, maker of heaven and earth. Through these writings I learn more about Him, but I also learn more about myself. I learn about my mind and my body. I learn about the spirit within me. I learn about the interactions between myself and the eternal being that formed me.
Every day I am thankful for this simple exercise of reading in the Bible. I purposefully adorn myself with a grateful attitude and state of mind so that I can keep things in the proper perspective and see what I need to accomplish for the day. Every day I open my Bible I am committing myself to God and His plan for my life, and I find encouragement and peace and comfort. I find everything I need by seeking God in this way, every day.
